POWER PRINCESS

 


Power Princess at the Royal Armoury... report by Pia Lagergren.


For almost five hundred years, items once in the possession of Swedish
monarchs and their families have been kept in the Royal Armoury. From
generation to generation,.... they have built up an ever-expanding col-
lection of memories from the country's different dynasties, evoking well-
known events in Swedish history.............................................................

The latest exhibition: PRINCESSES! opened yesterday by HRH Princess
Madeleine of Sweden. The expo mixes Princesses from the world of fair-
ytales with exiting actual destinys of many Princess in the Swedish Royal
 family since the middle Ages. During hundreds of years Sweden has expor-
ted Princesses to Denmark to become Queens. Here we have the oppor-
tunity to among others be accquinted with Princess Ingrid of Sweden, the
mother of the Queen of Denmark, Margrethe...........................................

 To the right - Princess Cecilia Vasa, 1540-1627, daughter of King Gustav
 Vasa was famous for her beauty.---- She was best mate with Elisabeth I of
England and was known as a real pirate who raided boats at the Baltic Sea
.

--- The expo also shows the life of the funny and beautiful pirateprincess
Cecilia Vasa (year 1500) and the feminist-princess Sofia Albertina (1700),
 the sister of the mega-gay King Gustav III. --  The expo also displays a lot
of private items from the Princesses such as dresses, shoes, toys and make-
up. It even shows a selection of private letters, diary's and paintings.........


 Make-up and elegant dresses, specially made for princesses...

These princesses were not only beautiful and adventures, they also had a
will of their own..... which often separated them from the ideal world of the
fairytales.....................................................................................................

While at the at the Royal Armoury museum, take time and watch their
basic  exhibition. -- See, for example, the costume worn by Gustav III at
that fateful masked ball in 1792, Karl XII's muddy uniform from Fredriksten
 in 1718, and the blood-stained shirts and elk-hide coat worn by Gustavus
 Adolphus at the Battle of Lützen in 1632...................................................

Most of the artefacts in the Royal Armoury's rich and varied collection reflect
official occasions such as state ceremonies, weddings, coronations or funerals,
with magnificent ceremonial carriages, armour and weapons. Clothes and play-
things once belonging to royal children are also on display... do this expo......
